What is a web host?
A web host is a business that provides server space for websites controlled by individuals or companies that do not have their own web servers. In other words, a web host provides a virtual place on the web where your site "lives". Commercial web hosts charge fees depending on the size and complexity of the site being hosted.
How do I find out who is hosting my website?
If you don't know who is hosting your website, you can find out by performing a "Who Is" lookup. Go to http://whois-generic.ausregistry.net.au/whois/blank_whois_local.jsp? and type your domain name into the Enter Domain Name field.Complete the word verification then submit the form. You will receive your website hosting information.
What is a control panel (cPanel)?
cPanel is a web based control panel tool which lets you manage your web hosting account through a web browser instead of a separate program.
To log into your cPanel type yourdomainname.com/cpanel into the address bar of your web browser.
Use your hosting username and password to log into your site's cPanel. You would have received these details in an email upon creation of your hosting account.
What is an ISP?
An ISP, or Internet Service Provider, is a company that offers internet access to individuals and businesses for a monthly or yearly fee (Telstra Big Pond, TPG etc).
My website is down, what should I do?
Relax, server outages can occur. Wait for an hour the and check back to see if your website is back up. If your website is still down, please do the following checks before you contact us:
- Is your internet connection working correctly?
- Has your domain expired?
- Have you exceeded the disc space allocated to your website from your host? (You can check this by logging into cPanel.)
- Are you up to date with you hosting or domain payments?
- Contact your web host, quote your domain name and ask if their servers are down.
